Instructions After Sedation

Important Instructions and reminders after your sedation appointment:

A responsible adult should be with the patient until he/she has fully recovered from the effects of the medication. The patient cannot drive or operate any hazardous devices for at least 24 hours after taking the sedation medication.

Getting proper nutrition after sedation is essential. The patient should begin eating and drinking plenty of fluids as soon as possible. The patient should not carry, sleep next to, or be left alone with young children for no less than 24 hours after the last dosage of medication. The patient may seem alert when he/she leaves- this may be misleading, so do not leave the patient alone.

The companion should always hold the patient’s arm when walking, and the patient should not go up and down stairs unattended. If possible, let the patient stay on the ground floor.

Our office will handle any questions you may have, and our staff will be happy to assist you.
